The unusual Gibson BFG Les Paul Model was built from 2007 to 2011 and BFG stands for ‘Barely Finished Guitar’.

This model was meant as a straight-ahead rock machine with few frills, and extremely light finish, CNC-textured ‘faux gator’ Maple top, an uncovered P-90 pickup and an uncovered Zebra Burst Bucker 3 humbucker. The wiring is also stripped down, with two volumes, master tone, 3-way switch among the controls and a 2-way kill-switch placed on the upper bout where the pickup selector normally goes. The control cavities got transparent covers. For other hardware, a black set of Grover Roto-Matic tuners and matching tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece are installed.

The finish is basically nonexistent, just wash coats over stain.  The unbound fingerboard has side dots, but not top-side position markers.

At under 7.5 pounds the Gibson BFG Les Paul is one of the lightest Maple-top Les Pauls, and the looks have a certain appeal. The carved texture on the top starts to look like highly figured Maple, then more like faux Gator. It plays well and is quite resonant.

The original hard shell case is included.
